Nineteenth Mile of My Learning Marathon

Development through My Learning Style

I did a learning style test for my M3 for Unit 1 and the result came out that I am a kinaesthetic learner. A typical definition of kinaesthetic learner would state that “Kinaesthetic learners learn best by moving their bodies, activating their large or small muscles as they learn. These are the "hands-on learners" or the "doers" who actually concentrate better and learn more easily when movement is involved” (Google, 2000)

I decided to research the type of person that I am and when researching I began to notice that the following bullet points actually reflect the type of person that I am.

·         I may be well suited to more practical subjects, where I can see a direct application of the theory and the information I am learning.

·         Probably more interested in action and getting things done, I may get frustrated with some of the theoretical aspects of academic study. If this is a strong preference - I may need to accept it is part of the academic 'game' that I need to play in order to pass my exams.

·         Even if theories do not have an immediate practical application, try to see how they can change the way people think about things, or approach problems over the future.

·         Sometimes, theories may need to build on other past theories until it can be seen how useful they are.

·         Decisive and preferring to use my common-sense rather than analysing things to a great depth, I are likely to use my overall 'feel' or instinct when making decisions.

·         When I formulate an academic argument, I may need to explore the problem from various different viewpoints, even if I don't agree with them myself.

·         This is particularly important for degree level subjects, where I need to explore issues from as many angles as I can, and produce a logical argument from a number of sources of evidence.
